Think about what you do when you are in love with someone, such as a romantic love or the love of a child. How do you treat them? What do you prioritize when your have a really deep love for someone? You are completely focused on that person and on the lookout for what makes them happy. You want to understand their deepest desires and how to meet those desires. You are not necessarily focused so much on what their needs are, although that comes into play, especially with our children or our pets. But ultimately your main focus is their happiness and well being- it is on what makes them come ALIVE! This is also the protocol for self-love.

So when you are wondering, “Am I really loving myself?” ask yourself, “Am I really focused on what makes me happy? Am I following that path of happiness, going after the things that truly bring me happiness and providing for myself the things that make me happy?”

The path to genuine self-love is a very simple path, but not always easy- follow your bliss. Tune into yourself on a regular basis and let this be your constant mantra: How do I feel and what do I need? What can I do to feel even better?

When you are not genuinely self-loving, you are simply not tuning into your needs and what makes you happy, but rather, you are constantly tuning into somebody else and what will make them happy. “Will what I do impress them? Will this make me worthy of their love?” There is a constant tuning into everyone else outside of yourself to the neglect of your own happiness. A person could be taking care of their needs- they could be taking care of their child’s needs, and yet not loving them. Love is so much more than just taking care of basic needs.

looking in the mirror and loving what I seeLove is really wanting to be with that person.

Love is wanting to know and understand what makes that person tick, what makes them happy, who they are, what they believe in, what their values are, what their goals are, what their dreams are.

Love is about wanting to do whatever it takes to bring a smile, to bring happiness and to know that person is feeling wonderful.

That is what genuine self-love is. It is tuning into what makes you come alive. Sometimes we get so out of tune with ourselves, that it becomes difficult to even know anymore what we desire, what makes us come alive and what makes us happy.

We should be, moment by moment by moment asking, how do I feel and what do I need in this moment.

Essentially it is you in alignment with you- with who you are at your core. Its allowing your path be the path of bliss, of what resonates with you, of what feels good.

A lot of people may argue that they cannot just do whatever feels good because it might not be right. But when you are truly tuned into yourself, things that feel good, that lift us to higher vibes, are not necessarily things that are going to be morally wrong. Because the reality is, what would be morally wrong would be based in feelings of anger, hurt, resentment, jealousy, grief and other low vibe emotions. The only way these lower vibe emotions serve us is to help us see that we are not on the path of bliss. We can know by these emotions what we do not want. When you have negative emotions, you are out of alignment with your core self.

Alignment with your core self- is a positive emotional state of being. In its purest form, it is love. It is also, peace, serenity and joy; You feel happy with yourself and you want others to be happy. You do not want to act out or make decisions until you are in alignment with your true self- your core being, until you are genuinely loving yourself and your in that place of happiness.

Basically, if you want to know whether or not you are genuinely loving yourself, just ask yourself, “How am I making my decisions moment by moment? are my decisions all about being responsible or making sure that I am approved of? Are they about impressing other people? Or are they about tuning into who I am, what I really desire and want, and going after that with all my heart?

If you can honestly say, “That is what I am doing! I am just going after exactly what makes me feel happy and what makes me come alive!” Then you are likely a great ensign for genuine self-love. Kudos to you!
